The 24 Sacred Ekadashis
Ekadashi, the 11th lunar day, appears 24 times a year-12 in Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and 12 in Krishna Paksha (waning moon). The cycle begins with Utpanna (origin) and ends with Papavimochani (sin destroyer). Mokshada grants liberation; Saphala brings success. Putrada (Pausha & Shravana) blesses with children. Satilla involves sesame charity. Jaya & Vijaya ensure victory. Amalaki venerates the gooseberry tree. Papmochani & Papankusha erase sins. Kamada fulfills desires; Varuthini prevents misfortune; Mohini breaks illusion; Apara removes heavy karma. Nirjala (waterless fast) gives all merits. Yogini heals. Devshayani starts Vishnu’s sleep; Devuthana awakens Him. Kamika, Parsha/Vamana, Indira (for ancestors), and Rama complete the 24.
